To Prepare for Yom Kippur, Confess Your Sins on Twitter?

When Jews around the world gather tonight for the start of Yom Kippur, they will confess their sins in a set of two prayers, the Ashamnuand the Al Chet. One thing stands out about the words of these prayers: The sentences are all in the first-person plural — that is to say, “we.” For example, the Ashamnu is a list of sins in alphabetical order (in Hebrew, not in translation), beginning: We have been guilty; we have betrayed; we have stolen; we have lied, and 22 more.
Perhaps you have not stolen or lied, but no matter. Someone in your community has, and in Judaism, confessions are a communal act. A sin by an individual is the responsibility of the whole. This notion seems to be at the heart of an experiment led by the Reform community at Harvard Hillel, which has been encouraging its members to confess their sins not under their breath during services, but publicly on Twitter, with the hashtag #AlChetHarvard. Some of the tweets will be incorporated into the group’s Yom Kippur services.

Interesting. I will not be sharing my sins on social media, but it’s an interesting concept. I’m wondering if there will be some sort of backlash.

President Josiah Bartlet takes down one of the fundamentalist crazy people that believe ‘homosexuality is an abomination’.  And it is awesome <3 :D

No idea what this show is from, but I’ve seen this argument used aaaages ago, and always loved it XD

damn….gotta use this from now on

You can find this on YouTube, and it’s from The West Wing, which I heard was an excellent show though I never got around to watching it.

West Wing was a fantastic show. It brought me to tears during so many episodes. Highly recommend it.

Day 24 - Is religion featured in your novel at all? If so, which ones? If it’s/they’re your own creations, describe it/them and how it/they play(s) a part in your characters’ lives.

Yuppers, religion won’t be a feature, but it will be discussed.  When most of the elderly hold onto their secrets they are unable to die/move on, and when Simone takes their secret they tend to pass on to the next realm.  Some of the elderly will discuss with Simone what they think is awaiting them, and why they are either afraid or wanting to move on.

I would also really like to go into some Voodoo with Nora’s character, since I’m loosely modeling her after my Great Aunt Nora, but I need to do some additional research and I’m running out of time so I may be adding in a few (insert detail about this item here) and fill those in during December/January.
