Finished “Moonwalking with Einstein” by Joshua Foer on the train ride home last night. Turns out about the last 15-18% of the book are all the footnotes so I was much closer to being finished than I even realized. I was supposed to read this for book club months ago, but I wasn’t going to be able to make the meeting and I never started reading it.
I really enjoyed this a lot. Memory is a fascinating subject, and Foer did a great job of inter-splicing memory science, medicine, and lore. I don’t typically read non-fiction, but this was a great and very trade read. Perfect for someone who wants to learn but not feel like they are reading a textbook.
Edit: The cover makes sense once you’ve read the book which always makes me feel good. I always like being able to recognize more in a cover after a read.
I give this a solid A, and was enjoying it so much I got it for my mother-in-law.
18/50 and back on track.
Up next: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

i think dialogue is quick to read and generally easy to process. pretty sure that’s what speeds up fiction reading for me. it’s rarely as dense as a page of info or description.

That’s also true for me. Non-fiction seems to be harder for me to process. I can read a fiction book in days, but a non-fiction will take me a couple of weeks. No explanation.

I think you both make good points. The pages are dense and there aren’t any breaks for dialogue. Plus, I’m trying to pay attention to the memory lessons, while I’m not attempting to be a memory champion it would be nice to not forget as much.
