This awesome blossom is a Monkey Orchid (Orchis simia). In our wildest dreams we never imagined that there might actually be flowers out there with monkey faces. Nature truly is awesome. This looks like something straight out of Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There. Less talk, more monkey flowers!

“These wonderful orchids come from the south-eastern Ecuadorian and Peruvian cloud forests from elevations of 1000 to 2000 meters and as such not many people throughout history got to see them. However, thanks to intrepid collectors we do get to see this wonderful Monkey Orchid.”

Behold The Great Monkey Project by cardboard sculptor and woodcutter James Grashow! James recently made headlines for an impressive sculptural installation called Corrugated Fountain. Back in 2008, he created 100 awesome life-size monkeys out of cardboard and then hung them in the San Jose Museum of Art’s lobby. As he says, “The more monkeys you have, the more the space between them starts to jump. The ceiling becomes an abstract painting.”

We love it! Less talk, more awesome cardboard monkeys!
