Finished “Daughter of Smoke and Bone” by Laini Taylor last night. As I mentioned yesterday, I found most of the characters to be interesting and I very much enjoy monsters and angels, but the romantic aspect of this novel was distracting and extremely childish. Granted, I know that this is a YA novel, but it seemed like a love-sick teen whose only experience with romance came from years of watching rom-coms had too much input. I found the romance so distracting that I’m not sure if I will continue the series. The one redeeming factor was the descriptions of the different chimaera creatures. It was really fun to try and picture what they looked like, and it made me wish that I could draw and create such fantastical creatures.
I’d give this a C-.
