I also enjoying running, watching Food Network, Doctor Who and a variety of other nerdy programming. I live in NYC and work for a large academic book publisher. I think this is my favorite new book of the year. </p> <p>I really enjoyed the way she didn’t dwell on trying to explain the science or magic behind why Ursela keeps coming back to life after her many deaths. This book definitely makes you think though, especially when you’re trying to remember chains of events (but Atkinson does a great job of casually working in a timeline for the reader to follow, without repeating herself too often). I found myself incredibly engaged with the stories, especially during WWII. I don’t know if it’s because I’m an American, or if it’s because I had terrible world history classes growing up, but I never knew how bad it really was in Europe during this time until I started watching Doctor Who. You cannot read this book without some idea of how bad the bombings were.</p> <p>Trigger warning: There are some sections about serious domestic abuse, as well as a rape. </p> <p>I cried on the train after one of these scenes due to a combination of feeling so sorry for the characters involved, and having experienced as incredibly long day. </p> <p>Overall though, definitely give this book a read.
