I would really like to stop being scared and try to get a book published, but I have no idea how the process works. Would you be able to give me information on how to get started?

I know it’s easier said than done, but don’t be scared. I like to remind myself that at one point in time every author started out wondering if anyone was going to publish their work.
If you’re already writing, you’ve taken a big step in the right direction. If you’re not sure that your manuscript is up for submission yet, sign up for a local workshop class. It’s a great way to meet other writers, and get some constructive feedback.
Once you feel that your manuscript is ready to be submitted, do some research and find out how the agents/houses that you would like to submit prefer to accept submissions. You can find submission guidelines on nearly all publishers websites. Be smart. If you’ve written a science fiction story, don’t send your manuscript to a house that only publishes biographies.
An unfortunate aspect for each potential author is the waiting game. You may be waiting anywhere from 3-12 months before you hear back from anyone, positive or negative. But don’t get discouraged while you’re waiting. Use the time to work on a new project.
I hope that helps a bit.
