Day 09- A Book You’ve Read More Than Once
While I am slightly embarrassed to admit this, I have read all of the Harry Potter books more than twice, except for the last one.  I was very late to the HP bandwagon, and the 5th book was just coming out when I finally got into the series. I can speed read, so I read through the first four books in about 10 days, and then would eagerly read through the new releases before anything was spoiled...

Today is Overdose Awareness Day →
fuckyeahdrugpolicy: More than twenty five thousand Americans will likely die of an accidental drug overdose this year, but most overdose deaths can be prevented. On August 31 rallies, vigils, and other events will be held across the country to draw attention to the overdose epidemic. Find an Overdose Awareness Day event near you. Tell President Obama it’s time to stop letting people die...

I was so pleased with myself this morning because I went to the gym last night and ran 4 miles and then this morning I got up early and went to vinyasa yoga.  I walked all the way to the subway realized that not only was my MetroCard expired, but I left my wallet at home.  Had to turn around walk all the way home, get my wallet and walk back to the subway to stand in the ridiculously long line to...

Day 08- An Unpopular Book You Believe Should be a...
Being a book lover, I’m a big fan of Jasper Fforde.  All of the literary references in his stories just crack me up, especially the subtle ones. I was disappointed that the Nursery Crime series did not do well.  I read both The Big Over Easy and The Fourth Bear, and I found them both entertaining, not as much as the Thursday Next series, but still another great homage to literary and oral...

Day 07- A Book That’s Hard to Read
Trainspotting, hands down.  I’ve never seen the movie, and as I think I’ve mentioned before I prefer to read a book before seeing the movie.  This is definitely one movie that I feel 100% comfortable seeing before finishing the book.  I think I got through about 5 pages in the phonetic Scottish English before I gave up.  While I can get through some books written in dialect, this was just not one...

Day 06- A Book That Makes You Cry
I’m been bad about doing these this past weekend due to the storm, so I’ll be catching up on a few today.   I don’t think I have ever read a book that has made me cry.  I have definitely read books that have been sad or emotionally draining to the point that I need to take a break.  But I have never read a book through tears in my eyes.   Books that have made me take a break...

marshmallow—monkeys replied to your post: Bleech.  I reheated dirty rice and andouille… LOL ew. :P HOW DID YOUR COOKIES TURN OUT? The cookies turned out amazing.  I seriously don’t know what it was last night, but the cookies gods we’re smiling upon my kitchen.  Not a single burnt bottom and they are all chewy gooey deliciousness.  It’s a good batch to go out on....

Bleech.  I reheated dirty rice and andouille sausage for breakfast.  It was a really bad decision, because I keep forgetting that I no longer have the stomach or metabolism of a teenager.  My burps are really gross tasting and frequent, just thought I’d share.

Survived the storm. We are totally fine and still have power. Since I didn’t sleep that great last night, I took some Nyquil instead of Dayquil (trying to shake this head cold) and I’m planning on napping on the futon with Jackie Brown.

Attempting to get some sleep. So far it’s just been a lot of rain. They said everything will get bad around 8 am. I’m intrigued to see what I will wake up to. Judging from the dark apartments across the street a lot of people don’t seem to be home. Glad I’m safe and sound with the boo, Amy and Jackie Brown. Ps: Thanks for the well wishes!

terisaurus replied to your photo: Like a true New Yorker, I left my home this… I just got back from a walk around my neighborhood. I’m surprised by how many people are walking around and how many stores are still open. I know, it’s crazy.  It makes sense to still be open until the MTA shuts down or 2ish. Stay safe, keep me posted.

Hurricane Irene
Glad I had a half day Friday.  Came home, went to two different hardware stores to get some last minute supplies.  Really glad that I took care of food and water earlier this week, because by the end of the night I don’t think there will be bottled water left anywhere in NYC.  Charging all electronics that can function without being plugged in, got my candles, and cleaning up everything so I...

Day 05- A Non-Fiction Book That You Actually...
While I don’t normally read a lot of non-fiction, my favorite non-fiction book would have to be, The Color of Water: A Black Man’s Tribute to His White Mother.  I don’t really remember if my mother bought me the book, or if I saw something about it and bought it myself, but it was such an engaging and heart warming true story about a white woman and how she raised her 12...

John Mulaney was a riot. I’m pretty sure I laughed the entire time. It was a bit weird to be there enjoying his set while cameras are rolling around the audience getting up in your face. All in all an excellent night, except for the limping from Blistergate III.

Day 04- A Book That Reminds You of Home
This is a real stumper.  I moved around a lot while I was growing up, and I’m of the belief that home is wherever I am, which is contrary to my mother’s belief that my home is wherever she is.  I did a large chunk of growing up in Montana, but I abhor western literature, and doing read a lot of nature/exploration novels. So, I would have to say that my old journals are the best books...

marshmallow—monkeys replied to your post: Urgh, standing in line at the DMV. Not a fun way… “YOU HAVE A KINDLE!? I’m sort of disappointed in you, even though we don’t know each other well, LOL. Do you like it better than an actual book? :O I’m curious. LOL” Ha.  I do indeed have a kindle and I love it to bits.  I still very much enjoy reading physical books though, and...

Urgh, standing in line at the DMV. Not a fun way to spend your lunch break. At least I brought my Kindle. Last time I did this I almost finished an entire murder mystery.

I just learned that Nancy Drew was written by a man. How have I gone this long in life without knowing that. Thanks Qrank’s Kirkus Review game for teaching me about Edward Stratemeyer and thanks interwebs for teaching me about his illustrious writing career.

Day 03-A Book that Completely Surprised You
To be an optimist, I’m going to go with surprised by how much I enjoyed it. A few months back I was selected for jury duty and it lasted 10 business days.  My goal was to read 3 books, and I ended up reading 4.  One of the books on my list was Water for Elephants because so many people told me I should read it, and since the movie was coming out I thought why not.  I frequently enjoy not...

Day 02-Least Favorite Book
While this answer might frustrate some, I cannot stand Pride and Prejudice.  I have tried to read it several times and I just can’t get through it.  I can’t quite put my fingers on it, if it’s the pace, or the characters, or the dialect, but I just have no interest in finishing it.  As a fan of literature, I know I “should” read Jane Austen, but I feel that knowing...

Day One-Your Favorite Book
This is such a hard question to answer, so I’ll have to give two. The Master and Margarita, is hands down one of my favorite books because every time I read it I pick up more about the characters, the history of Russia and just piece together the story better.  I read this for my a World Literature class, and it was my first introduction to Russian literature.  I was fascinated with the chapters...
